What does provincial certification mean?

Certification is a process that provides the clientele with a guarantee that a product or a service complies with specific standards. These standards vary according to the type of certification awarded, and at a minimum, give the product or service a distinction at a provincial level. In order to obtain certification, the operator must submit a dossier to the certifying organization. The latter then assesses whether the product or service meets the required standards, before awarding the certification sought. These standards also appear in a set of specifications, which the operator must respect at all times in order to retain his certification. Verification mechanisms have been set up to ensure that the product or service remains compliant. Should the operator not respect the specifications, the certifying organization has the power to order that the product or service be brought up to standard, or to withdraw the certification.

For the consumer, these certifications guarantee the organic integrity of the agricultural production and its processing, according to the standards set out in the specifications governing organic farming practices.
 

Terre Vivante Certification
This certification is awarded to agricultural producers who are now using zero tillage practices. These practices, which do not overwork the soil, are effective methods of soil conservation and environmental protection. 
        
This certification is awarded by the Société ÉCONOMUSÉE® du Québec (SÉQ) to establishments that promote and showcase traditional methods and know-how.
 
These certifications guarantee the consistent quality of the hospitality offered, the facilities provided and the meals served. They are awarded by the Association de l’Agrotourisme et du Tourisme Gourmand du Québec (formerly the Fédération des Agricotours du Québec) following very meticulous selection of the establishments.
